The Digging Song

(To be sung to the tune of Tennessee Ernie Ford’s Sixteen Tons)

Well some people say that churches are for sittin and sleep,
But I’ll tell you right now that that just ain’t for me,
So i loaded up my GCC India team
And we got on a plane and flew over the sea,
We met our Indian friends, now isn’t that odd?
We’re another day closer to the Kingdom of God!
Now St. Peter don’t you call me, cause I ain’t done,
I’m down at the worksite having too much fun!

I woke up in the morning with the sun and the shine,
I picked up my shovel and I headed to the site
And dug 16 tons of Indian sand
And the Habitat leader said, “Well, oh my land!”
You loaded 16 tons, now isn’t that odd?
We’re another day closer to the Kingdom of God!
Now St. Peter don’t you call me, cause I ain’t done,
I’m down at the worksite having too much fun!

Well, I woke up and I went down to the house with no walls,
But by 10 in the morning they was 6 feet tall!
We laid down 16 tons of Indian brick
And they were straighter and smoother than a measuring stick,
We laid down 16 tons, now isn’t that odd?
We’re another day closer to the Kingdom of God!
Now St. Peter don’t you call me, cause I ain’t done,
I’m down at the worksite having too much fun!
